| Running in the Rain |
| A 6-year-old girl stood with her mother at the Wal-Mart entrance watching a torrential rain flood the parking lot. Others joined them, purchases in hand, some irritated at the holdup. The little girl said above the din, "Mommy, let's run through the rain." "Oh no, we can’t do that," said the mom, "We’ll get soaking wet." "No, we won't, Mommy. That's not what you said to Daddy about his Cancer. You said, 'If God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!' " The entire crowd became quiet, interested in the coming reply. The woman thought for a moment about what she should say, and before long came the response. "Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. God can get us through it, and if God let's us get wet, perhaps we just needed a good washing." They held hands and off they went—running toward their car, items above their heads, coats flapping, through the puddles and relentless downpour. And indeed they got soaking wet. Rather than laugh at this silliness, many from the crowd also stepped out and ran with all they had toward their cars, shrieking with laughter, and getting just as soaked. But a great thing happened that day as so many were able to trust God to get them through a situation and afterward say, "Well, perhaps I just needed a good washing." |
