Fear is a Low-Level No
Be cautious but not overcautious because overcaution is fear. Conquer fear by letting it work for you.
Christians often claim to have faith in God but allow other people to interpret the world around them. Isn't that doing things the hard way? Have you ever needed or wanted to do something but failed because you were too cautious? Overcaution makes us powerless, just plain afraid to move ahead with an idea. But how much could we accomplish if we had no such fear? To the extent that we can put our faith in God, we leave no room for fear because faith and fear are incompatible. Sometimes, however, we forget that we can make good use of our fear while putting it behind us. Daily reports that the sky is falling don't scare us because it's not the doom sayers' sky, economy, government or whatever, and we don't fear superstition. That's a no-brainer, but we have more complex personal challenges that cripple us at times. Ah, but our simple response to "The sky is falling" should be our approach to everything that binds us, all our fears, even those complex problems. Look at it this way—the fear is what can get you to where you want to go. Identify the fear, and you're on your way. Satan is such a poor business man, he often lays all his chips on the table, telling us exactly what our obstacles are. He thinks this is enough to control us because a great number of us allow just that. We let him keep us from following God by reminding us of risk or difficulty as if they were conditions. He sends well-meaning people to announce, "The problem is" or "I hate to burst your bubble" or "That's a great idea, but it would require too much change or approval or work or expense." "Great," you should be saying. "Now I know the things to pray about to see what God really wants." If God has a dream for you, announce it and before long you will know the conditions. They are ways of saying no, you can't do that, but God might not be saying it. The conditions might even be other peoples' fears you can help them with as well. If God wants you to be somewhere or do something, he has the best advice about the details, not everyone else. Listen to the higher voice. Accommodate but never accept the lower-level "no."
