An authentic old-fashioned treat for
the holidays. Is this a museum or what?
2 cups of chopped dates
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 cup of hot water
1 cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of butter
1 egg
1 1/2 cups of flour
A pinch of salt
1 cup of chopped nuts
2 teaspoons of vanilla
Combine the chopped dates, baking soda and hot water
and set aside. Combine the remaining ingredients.
Blend the dates with the flour mixture.

Grease and flour a loaf pan, and cut a piece of waxed
paper to fit the bottom. Pour in the batter and bake at
350 degrees for one hour.

After removing it from the oven, cool for a few
minutes and then remove from the cake pan to finish
cooling. Good served warm and with a whipped cream
topping.
